It's February 28th today. Catherine is officially 18 months old and it has been exactly 6 months since my last blog post. Catherine was just learning how to walk when I penned my last post, and it was only a matter of days before she was cruising around the house at full speed, getting into everything. I think somewhere in the 5 year gap between she and James I seemed to have forgotten how much work toddlers are. Couple that with the fact that I'm also 5 years older and well that doesn't leave a lot of time (or energy) for blogging.
Facebook didn't help much either. It was quick and easy, and I could still keep in touch with almost all the people I kept in touch with through this blog. I guess that wasn't cutting it though. After a few months, comments from friends and family started to trickle in...."It's been a while since you've posted anything on your blog (hint, hint!)" Kent even expressed his wish for my return. He likes the fact that this kind of keeps a journal of what's going on in our life at any particular time. The guilt started to set in for me and I made a New Year's resolution to start blogging again. I just never set a date to go with it. January came and went with nary a word from "Bases Loaded".
When February arrived, I honestly contemplated the deletion of this blog. I'm at a point in my life where there just aren't enough hours in the day. Not that there ever where, but these past 2 years have been overwhelming for me and I think the years of moving around have finally caught up to me, especially with this being the most difficult one by far. Just before Lent I sat down at the computer, I was going to save what I had done up to this point and terminate my account, but before I did that I started to read some of my old posts. It had been a while since I had done this and there were some things I came across that I was so happy to have down in writing. Things that because of the craziness of the past few years I don't know if I would have ever remembered on my own, and I was so very, very grateful for my blog that day. It wasn't enough to get me posting again, but I certainly wasn't going to quit either.
It wasn't until this past week, when Michael not knowing all I had given up for Lent discovered I was abstaining from Facebook as well. "Good!" he quickly stated, "Maybe you'll actually get back to your blog now!" It was then I realized how important this blog was for my kids, after all it's pretty much their lives that make up the meat of what is here. They might not read it religiously right now, but one day they are really going to enjoy having these little snippets of their life to look back on.
So I'm back now, after my 6 month hiatus. Not that anyone is going to know, after so long away I'm pretty sure no one is reading anymore..... well anyone other than Michael, that is.
Ha - I'm still reading! Glad you're back!!
